Use the AI assistant

For: everyone

Every MatrixHost server comes with an AI assistant, @ai. You can chat with it like with a colleague, in your own language.

What it can do

• Answer questions and help you write or rephrase texts.
• Read files you send it: PDF, Word, text, CSV and more. Ask it to summarise, translate or explain them.
• Understand images, for example a photo of a document or a screenshot.
• Search the history of a room to find what was said about a topic.

Chat with it directly

In the browser or on the computer

1. Click the + button above the room list and choose Start new chat.
2. Type ai and choose @ai: followed by your server address, for example @ai:8e43f5db6a.matrixhost.eu.
3. Click Go to start the chat.
4. Write your question and send it.

On the phone (Element X)

1. Tap the button to start a new chat (the pencil icon).
2. Search for ai and choose @ai: followed by your server address.
3. Write your question and send it.

Use it in a room

1. If @ai is not in the room yet, invite it like a colleague. See Start a chat and invite colleagues.
2. Type @ai, choose it from the list, then write your question in the same message.
3. The assistant answers in the room, so everyone there can see the answer.

Good to know

• To send a file or image, attach it in the chat with @ai and add your question.
• Answers come from an AI and can be wrong. Check important facts.
• The AI uses your plan's monthly AI budget. See Your AI budget.
• If it says "All AI providers are rate-limited right now — please try again in a minute.", wait a minute and send your message again.
