For: everyone
You decide how much Element notifies you. A common setup: every message in direct messages, only mentions in busy group rooms, and some rooms muted.
Your general settings
In the browser / on the computer
- Click your picture at the top left, then All settings.
- Open Notifications.
- Choose what you want to be notified about, for example all messages in direct messages and group chats, or only Mentions and keywords.
- Under keywords, you can add words that should always notify you, for example your company name or a project name.
On the phone (Element X)
- Tap your picture at the top left, then Settings → Notifications.
- Choose the setting for Direct chats and Group chats: All messages or only mentions.
Settings for one room
In the browser / on the computer
- In the room list, move the mouse over the room and click the bell icon (Notification options).
- Choose one of:
- Match default setting: follows your general settings;
- All messages: every message notifies you;
- Mentions and keywords: only when someone mentions you or uses one of your keywords;
- Mute room: no notifications at all.
On the phone (Element X)
- Open the room and tap its name at the top.
- Tap Notifications.
- Choose the default or a custom setting for this room.
Good to know
- Someone mentions you when they type
@and your name. See Reply, react and use threads. - Settings are partly per device: what you set on the phone may differ from the computer.
