For: the account owner (admin)
WhatsApp calls can't be answered through the bridge, so they don't ring in Element. With Call Redirect, people who call you on WhatsApp get an automatic reply that tells them how to reach you instead, for example by phone or with a FaceTime or call link.
Before you start
- Link WhatsApp first.
- Have the phone number or link ready that callers should use instead.
Set up the call redirect
- In the portal, open Call Redirect. The page is called WhatsApp Call Redirect.
- Turn on Enable call redirect.
- Enter a Phone number where callers can reach you.
- If you use FaceTime, enter your FaceTime link.
- Optional: enter a Call link (optional), for example a link to a video call room.
- Optional: write your own text in Message template (optional). You can use these placeholders, which are replaced automatically:
{number}: your phone number{facetime}: your FaceTime link{call_link}: your call link
- Click Preview to see the message callers will get.
- Click Save.
Example message
Thanks for calling! I can't take WhatsApp calls here.
Please call me at {number} or join me at {call_link}.
Good to know
- To stop the automatic replies, turn off Enable call redirect and click Save.
- Calls between people on your server work normally in Element. See Voice and video calls.
