Deactivate a user

When someone leaves your company, deactivate their account in the portal so they can no longer sign in.

For: the account owner (admin)

When a colleague leaves, deactivate their account in the portal. After that, they can no longer sign in to your server.

Before you start

  • Deactivation cannot be undone. Be sure before you confirm.
  • If you only want to lock someone out for a while, reset their password instead and don't share the new one.
  • If the person is an admin in important rooms, give someone else that role first: Room roles: admins and moderators.

Deactivate the account

  1. Open Settings in the portal.
  2. In the Users table, find the colleague. You can type their name in Search users....
  3. Click Deactivate in the Actions column.
  4. Read the confirmation. It says that this cannot be undone.
  5. Confirm.

Good to know

  • Your own owner account (admin) can't be deactivated.
  • Before someone leaves, ask them to save any files they need elsewhere and to unlink their own bridges (for example by sending logout to @whatsappbot).
  • Questions about how many users your plan includes: What counts as a user.
