For: everyone
Every phone, computer or browser where you are signed in is a session. It's good practice to check the list now and then and remove the ones you no longer use, for example an old phone or a shared computer.
See your sessions
In the browser or on the computer
- Click your profile picture at the top left.
- Click All settings.
- Open Sessions.
You see Current session (the device you are using) and a list of Other sessions, with the device name and when it was last active. Sessions that are not verified are marked.
On the phone (Element X)
To see the full list of sessions, use Element in the browser or on the computer. To sign out of the phone itself, open the settings by tapping your profile picture and tap Sign out.
Sign out of a session
- In Sessions, click the session you want to remove.
- Click Sign out.
- Element may ask for your password to confirm. Enter it.
To remove everything except the device you are using, choose the option to sign out of all other sessions.
If a device was lost or stolen
- Sign out of that session as described above.
- Change your password: the owner does this in the portal (see Reset a colleague's password), or for your own
adminaccount on the dashboard. - If you are the owner and a colleague's device is lost, you can also reset their password in Settings.
Good to know
- Before you sign out of your last session, make sure you have your recovery key. Otherwise you may not be able to read old encrypted messages afterwards.
- Give sessions a clear name (for example "Office laptop") so the list is easy to read.
