Use Element on your phone

Element X is the app for iPhone and Android. It connects to your company's own server, so you need your server address the first time you sign in.

Before you start

• Your username and password. Colleagues get them from the account owner; the owner uses admin and the password set on the dashboard.
• Your server address, for example 8e43f5db6a.matrixhost.eu. The owner finds it on the dashboard under Your Matrix login → Server.
• Your recovery key, or another device where you are already signed in.

Install and sign in

1. Install Element X from the App Store or Google Play.
2. Open the app and tap Sign in manually (or Change account provider).
3. Enter your server address, for example 8e43f5db6a.matrixhost.eu, and tap Continue.
4. Enter your username (for example marco, not your email address) and your password.
5. Tap Continue.

Confirm it's you

If you are already signed in somewhere else, the app asks you to confirm your identity. Choose one:

1. Use another device: accept the request in Element on your computer and compare the emojis, or
2. Enter recovery key: type the recovery key you saved at your first sign-in.

Your encrypted messages then appear on the phone too. More in Verify a new phone or computer.

If something goes wrong

• "Invalid username or password": use your username, not your email address. If needed, ask the owner to reset your password.
• "Cannot reach homeserver" or similar: check the server address for typos.
• Messages show "Unable to decrypt": verify this phone.
